Most of the people who prefer HoMM2 over HoMM3 play it for the campaign. That would be too bad for the level of effort invested. If you didn't know, cyclops could fire their boulders at walls during tactics phase in effect allowing player to tear down all walls and turrets before the actual engagement.

WebI don't care about single player campaigns or AI at all, I only care about good multiplayer design. In regards to multiplayer, homm 3 has a lot of fundamental issues that make it pretty awful. Homm 5 is probably the best for multiplayer, but even that has a lot of problems.
